The Portal

A natural arch created by the sea in northern Croatia. It's always a great pleasure to discover something to photograph that I've never seen on any photography websites. Once I found this arch, I became quite enchanted with it, returning for three separate sunrise sessions to photograph it with different skies. In the end, it was this morning with a thick marine layer that most appealed to me because it created such a great minimalist foil for the emphatic textures and lines of the rock. To smooth out the slightly rippled water in addition, I used a long exposure of 78 seconds. Anyone who might know the location of this arch should be very careful about sharing that information. The arch is very fragile and has already been damaged by thoughtless visitors.
