Nokia Lumia 1020 - test #5

Nokia Lumia 1020, test #5 Emirates Palace poolside In this exercise, I wanted to experiment with another night photography workflow I like very much; Digital Blending. I used Lumia 1020 the same way I would've used any other professional DSLR. How did it go? The shoot: I started by mounting the Lumia 1020 onto the tripod (standard 1/4-20 UNC thread) and composing my frame. I launched the Nokia ProCam software, selected full manual control and then proceeded to setting the White Balance to Daylight, focus set to infinity, ISO 100, shutter speed set to Auto and 5-stop bracketing from -2EV to +2EV. Lastly, I enabled Shutter Delay which allowed me to launch the bracketing sequence with a 2-second delay. Lumia quickly snapped 5 exposures at 41MP and that was it. Post: I chose Digital Blending technique instead of the usual HDR tone-mapping to finish this image. This process involves manual layering and blending of various exposures with aim to greatly expand the perceived dynamic range of the photograph. Digital Blending is a fully manual, laborious technique which requires patience, good eye and a decent amount of Photoshop skills. As luck would have it, I've the first and third skill. 2nd one is work in process.
